Negative Effects of Social Media on Pleasure
Mostly what we see on social media is opposite to our imagination. Not, of course, the people staged but they do not post negative images of themselves. We get low self-esteem by stalking others aesthetically perfect photos on social media or staying connected to the others relationship status. When we place our happiness in an unrealistic world and we develop a sense of worth and we start comparing ourselves then we lose control of our happiness. Consequently, we start comparing ourselves negatively to the things that are not real, we get the intended perspective. Like if you see an Instagram post and you perceive it as everyone so cherishes, and the photo is so flattering and you conclude that you have no happiness, fun, glamour in your life and you are not doing anything in your life.
While you waste most of your time scrolling down the social feeds mindlessly you are further want to hang with virtually it makes you isolated from the people around you. Social media doesn’t encourage real connection to people. Instead of virtual chat or text may be others want you a real conversation. Intimacy can never be achieved without sharing good and bad times with people. People spend too much time on social media in conversation but more difficult time to interact with others around us in real life. We are more depended on emojis to show our emotions.
Additionally, the increase in the use of social media can decrease well being. When we consume most of our time in gatherings, family and real-life friends it diminishes depression and loneliness. Social media is unrealistic and our young generation are too attached to their phones and do not participate in activities, social gathering, voluntarily works and even their studies. It also distorts our ability to remember certain bits from life.
Unhappiness due to the social media is proven but not merely happiness but it increases anxiety and depression, self harm as it may lead to the development of mental health issues when you use social media too much. Before choosing the hit the hay, it’s harder to doze off if we use our phones too soon. We see a fancy world on social media Due to getting worked up with anxiety or envy we do not fall asleep because our brain keeps on high alert. We feel tired from the release of hormone melatonin when we keep our mobile too close to our faces.
People who do multitask on social media do not perform well in reality it makes you worse at multitasking. When you constantly check your different social media sites accounts, emails, messages and give replies and likes, you think you can multi-task but in reality your ability to focus on multiple activities gets worse by shifting your attention so quickly from one account to another. While constant buzzing your mobile when you get notifications makes your cognitive function and concentration at risk when you tend to believe that their mobiles are vibrating when it is not actually have a pessimistic consequence on mental health.
